Breastfeeding
01Harnessing the Power of Maternal Milk
One of the unique qualities of Kurohana Wagyu is our thorough production management system, from breeding to shipment. Calves spend the first three months with their mothers, receiving essential nutrients from colostrum and maternal milk to support healthy growth. During this period, each calf is closely monitored, with staff visiting the barn multiple times daily to ensure the calf’s health and progress.

02A Unique Rearing Period for Rich Flavor
Kurohana Wagyu cattle undergo a 27-month rearing process tailored to Japanese black cattle, which allows them to develop their signature flavor. We emphasize an optimal rearing period rather than merely extending it, as high-quality cattle develop a richer flavor within a specific timeframe. This commitment to a balanced and attentive rearing process is our motto in pursuit of delicious beef.
Feedstuff
Feedstuff
01Safe, High-Quality Feed
Feed quality has the most significant impact on the taste of Kurohana Wagyu beef. We use a custom blend developed in-house by Sugimoto-Honten and premium oats hay imported from Australia, rich in starch but low in vitamin A, making it suitable for raising Japanese black cattle.

02Environmentally-Friendly Feed
For breeding cows, we use sustainable feeds that utilize untapped resources, such as used mushroom beds, shochu lees (a byproduct of distilling shochu), bamboo processed from unmanaged forests, and wood residues. By mixing these with pasture grass, we maximize the use of renewable resources and contribute to environmental preservation.
Disinfection
Disinfection
01Daily Disinfection – A Standard for Kurohana Wagyu
At Yatake Farm, we disinfect the barns 365 days a year, believing that prevention is key to the health of our cattle. In addition to routine barn disinfection with a dedicated vehicle, we also emphasize comprehensive sanitation measures for both cattle and staff. Maintaining cleanliness is essential for biosecurity and disease prevention.
Unlike many farms, which vary in disinfection frequency, Sugimoto-Honten adheres to a rigorous daily cleaning and disinfection standard. This strict commitment ensures that Kurohana Wagyu is raised in a clean, carefully managed environment, delivering the safe, high-quality beef our customers have come to trust.
Safety
Safety
01Commitment to Safety and International Standards
Our beef processing plant is equipped with the latest technology to ensure world-class safety and has acquired the international food safety certification standard “FSSC22000.”
To maintain hygiene, the facility is divided into designated areas with a one-way workflow system to prevent cross-contamination of people and materials. Air pressure controls prevent dust and particles from backflowing, and durable granite flooring makes cleaning easy. Additionally, temperature and humidity within the facility are rigorously managed using large dehumidifiers to prevent condensation
